The service you will work on

MailerMen's campaign delivery service pushes several million emails a week, and its Express API is the thing every other team calls. Over three months you sit inside that team and take ownership of a slice of it: the template rendering endpoints, the per account rate limit middleware, and the audit log that records who changed which campaign.

What a normal week looks like

Mondays start with a short design chat where you sketch a route contract before writing a line of it. You then implement it, write Jest tests around the happy path and the two failure modes nobody remembers, and open a pull request that a senior backend engineer reads line by line. Expect blunt feedback, and expect to argue back when you disagree.

By the end

You will have shipped at least four endpoints to production, debugged a real N+1 query against a PostgreSQL table holding a few hundred thousand rows, and learned to read a flame graph without panicking. Two days a week you work from the Bengaluru office and the rest from wherever suits you. No prior job experience is expected. Curiosity about how a request actually travels through a server is.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain REST endpoints in the campaign delivery service using Node.js and Express
  • Write per account rate limiting middleware and the audit log that records campaign edits
  • Cover every new route with Jest unit and integration tests before opening a pull request
  • Sketch a short route contract and review it with your mentor ahead of implementation
  • Trace and fix slow PostgreSQL queries surfaced by the template rendering endpoints
  • Respond to review comments and iterate until a change is genuinely ready to merge

Requirements

  • Final year student or recent graduate; no professional experience expected
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript and the Node.js runtime, including async and await
  • Have built at least one small Express or similar HTTP service, even a personal project
  • Basic SQL: able to write a join and read the output of EXPLAIN
  • Available for two in office days per week in Bengaluru

Skills

Benefits

  • Line by line code review from a senior backend engineer
  • Internship completion certificate
  • Flexible hours outside the two office days
  • Consideration for a full time backend role after the three months
