How the system is put together

Job ingestion at MailerMen is not one application. A scraper service pulls listings from partner feeds, a normaliser cleans them, a classifier tags them by role family and a publisher writes the final record. They speak to each other over RabbitMQ and each owns its own database. You will work across all four during this six month internship.

Where you will make a dent

The normaliser is the weak link. It processes messages one at a time, offers no idempotency guarantee, and duplicates a listing whenever a partner replays a feed. Your main project is to give it a deduplication key derived from the employer identifier and the job URL, batch its database writes, and add an outbox table so that a crash between the database commit and the message publish cannot quietly lose work.

Working remotely with us

The team is spread across four cities and remote by default. You get a written onboarding path for your first two weeks, a mentor who reviews your code within one working day, and access to production traces so you can watch your own service behave under real load instead of guessing at it.

Responsibilities

  • Add idempotent message handling and a deduplication key to the listing normaliser service
  • Implement the transactional outbox pattern so database writes and RabbitMQ publishes cannot diverge
  • Batch database writes and measure the throughput change against the current baseline
  • Add structured logging and distributed tracing across the four ingestion services
  • Write integration tests that spin up RabbitMQ and SQL Server in containers
  • Take a turn presenting at the fortnightly engineering knowledge share

Requirements

  • Final year student or recent graduate with a genuine interest in distributed systems
  • Solid C# fundamentals including async await and dependency injection
  • Understanding of what a message queue is and why systems reach for one
  • Self directed enough to work remotely from a written onboarding plan
  • No prior professional experience expected

Skills

Benefits

  • Monthly stipend for the full six months
  • Code reviewed within one working day, every time
  • Production trace access so you can see your own service under real load
  • Certificate, reference letter and consideration for a full time backend role
  • Fully remote within India with no office requirement
