The state of the site

Our site has grown past nine thousand indexed URLs and a fair number of them have no business being indexed at all. Duplicate job pages, expired listings still returning 200, pagination that quietly confuses crawlers. This six-month internship exists to clean that up and then keep it clean.

Your first weeks

You begin with a full Screaming Frog crawl and turn it into a prioritised fix list rather than a spreadsheet nobody opens. From there you work through canonical tags, the sitemap generator, redirect chains left behind by an old domain migration, and the Core Web Vitals scores on our job detail template, where one heavy third party script is currently costing us close to a second of LCP.

Where it goes next

Once the foundations hold you move to structured data. Every listing needs valid JobPosting schema, and you own the validation loop between the backend team and Search Console. You will also design the monthly technical health report the wider marketing team actually reads.

You should be able to read HTML and open browser dev tools without panic. You do not need to write production code, though the engineers will explain anything you ask about. Everything runs remotely on written updates.

Responsibilities

  • Run monthly Screaming Frog crawls and convert the output into a ranked, owned fix list
  • Audit canonical tags, robots directives and the XML sitemap across job listing templates
  • Find and shorten redirect chains left over from the old domain migration
  • Monitor Core Web Vitals and identify the scripts hurting LCP on high-traffic templates
  • Validate JobPosting structured data and clear Search Console coverage errors
  • Coordinate fixes with the engineering team and verify each one after release
  • Write and circulate the monthly technical SEO health report

Requirements

  • Final-year student or recent graduate, no prior work experience expected
  • Able to read HTML and use browser developer tools comfortably
  • Genuine curiosity about how crawling and indexing work
  • Disciplined enough to work remotely with written async updates
  • Available for the full six months at around thirty hours a week

Skills

Benefits

  • Direct mentorship from the head of growth in weekly sessions
  • Full ownership of technical work on a live site with real traffic
  • Monthly stipend paid on time, fully remote, no commute
  • Certificate and a detailed reference letter at the end
  • Priority consideration for a full-time SEO position
