Why this role exists
MailerMen ships a new feature roughly every fortnight, and each one needs a short animated explainer for the changelog page, the in-app onboarding modal and the founder's LinkedIn post. Across this six-month internship you will build the motion language for all of it: an icon set that animates, a transition kit, a title system that survives being squeezed into a 480 pixel wide modal.
What you will actually build
Expect to spend most of your time in After Effects. Early on you will rebuild our three existing explainers using shape layers instead of imported PNGs, which is the fastest way to learn how our brand system is put together. From there you move to new work: an animated walkthrough of the applicant tracker, a data visualisation of hiring trends from our internal jobs dataset, and the loop that plays behind the homepage hero. Expressions, parenting and a tidy comp structure matter more here than plugin collections.
Working with us
The team is fully distributed, so you will write short async notes with a screen recording attached rather than sit in long calls. Two live reviews a week, everything else on your own clock.
Responsibilities
- Animate feature explainer videos in After Effects for the changelog page and in-app onboarding
- Rebuild imported artwork as native shape layers so every graphic stays crisp at any export size
- Extend the motion kit with reusable transitions, icon animations and lower third templates
- Turn hiring trend data from our internal jobs dataset into short animated charts
- Produce looping background animations for the marketing site under strict file size limits
- Keep project files organised with pre-comps, labelled layers and expressions instead of duplicated keyframes
Requirements
- Recent graduate or final-year student, we hire on the reel and not on years of experience
- Demonstrable After Effects work, whether coursework, freelance or self-initiated
- Understanding of easing, timing and anticipation, and why linear keyframes look wrong
- Basic Illustrator or Figma skills for preparing artwork before it is animated
- Reliable laptop and internet for a fully remote six-month commitment
